And now time for the rest of the photos taken that day.
First photo is very interesting. It’s a photo one of the last ‘milk bars’ which were very popular during the communism times. It was aimed at the labourers – mostly to that layer of the society. Later on after the change in Poland it was a symbol of the cheap restaurant where you can eat simple, ordinary – but well known dishes. It became popular especially between students (who usually don’t have money) and the poorest. That milk bar ‘Bar Mleczny Prasowy’ was active more than 50 years and unfortunately was closed a few weeks ago. It’s name ‘Prasowy’ owns because on the opposite side of the Marszałkowska street was the editorial office of the well known Warsaw’s newspaper also with a long tradition – which was also recently closed.
The fun story is connected with the protest against closing one of the last milk bars in Warsaw. It was organized mostly by the young people and other citizens of Warsaw. 19th of December just after 1pm in front of the closed from months bar suddenly appears cheerful young crowd waving hands in the air, and out of the sudden, mysteriously door opens and the crowd enters the bar.
They were well organized. They divided into the groups, every group brought something, one group brought plates and spoons and forks, someone bought the vegetables and other ingrediends. Chairs appeared at the tables. In a few minutes like during the old times they started to give to the clients the dumplings (kluski leniwe)… :)
It was a protest against closing that bar and trying to show that such place with cheap ordinary food is needed in Warsaw.
The protest ended when police came and surrounded protesting people – who started chanting ‘ Raz, dwa, trzy, Pieee-ro-gi!’ (1-2-3, Dumplings !).
Very nice way of protesting. Great idea. More about this protest you can read here: Article in Gazeta Wyborcza.
Photos of the Theatre neon. Nice one – historical not a modern one.
A few random shots taken during the walk.
And here some photos taken in Warsaw’s metro.
