Rolleiflex Auto – firsts results

Well… finally I’ve got developed films from the recently bought Rolleiflex Auto TLR Camera. I’ve really wanted it before the 1st of October, however because of the mistake or other problem with polish Post Office (i don’t want to write explicitly that someone cheats by changing the sending date of the package by handwriting correction of the post office stamp) – i’ve got it just yesterday.

Well the results are OK, however they are technically are quite bad. Not mention that they are out of focus, mostly because low sensitivity of the film and low-lightning conditions and of course because of the bad photographer. Probably the last factor had the biggest influence on the final result :). This can be visible especially on the last photo. Well I’m not sure whether I can see the that I will manage to find my place at the medium format photography based on those photos… much better results are from the 35mm B&W and Canon AE-1 old analog reflex camera. Hopefully you will be able to judge it by yourself in one of the next posts.

Take a look at selected results… other haven’t passed the censorship ;)

That photo with the beach in Ustka is quite ok, however nothing special IMHO. The last one is much more interesting. It’s my first encounter with the parallax error in TLR camera… You can read it about it here, but in a few simple words it’s the difference of view between viewing lens (top lens) and taking lens (lower lens). The distance difference is about 7cm. As the result taking lens takes a little bit different photo that you can see in the viewfinder. The difference doesn’t matter if the subject is quite far, like some landscape. Problem appears when the subject is quite close. For example you taking a portrait of the person which is one-three meters from the camera. Then those 7 cm are important. The problem is even more visible when you taking the photos over the wall or fence. Even though you see clear picture in viewfinder, fence can hide part of the photo at the lower lens. And such situation you can see at the last photo. The photo was taken through the window, and in viewfinder I could see the clear picture of the tree, and taking lens ‘catched’ a lower part of the window frame. You never too old to learn. I have to remember about the parallax error…
