Rewa ‘Popped’

It’s time to show first part of photos taken with a new camera Konica Pop. I must say that results are quite good, however I have to be more careful when setting the aperture. I usually use the lowest possible aperture mostly because I lack of light almost permanently, and with fixed focus at 2,8m and aperture f/4, and lens focal length 36mm calculated depth of field is ~1,60m. So only things in a distance from ~2,20m to ~3,80m are in focus. With f/8 in focus area is from 1,90m to 5,90m (With f/11: 1.60 – 10m). So I can use lower apertures only when taking photos of persons and things in short distance. If I want to have everything in focus till infinity I have to use f/16, then calculated in-focus area is from ~1,4m till (I’ve calculated those distances with iDoF Calc for film 35mm and lens: 35mm – those data are approximate as the Konica lens has focal length of 36mm) infinity – however with fixed shutter time 1/125s and f/16 I have to user high ISO films or take photos in a bright day to have well exposed photographs. I don’t think that camera will be useful in winter – probably I will use this camera only during summertime ;)

I showed you those calculations, as you can see on the photos that things in infinity are not in focus – things on the horizon are blurry – it has it’s own charm, however it was not planned and I should better control that next time, as sometimes I would like to have everything pin-sharp. Using this camera has nothing in common with words ‘flexibility’ almost everything is fixed and you usually have to do rope-dancing to have well exposed photos.

One more word about the film used. First film I’ve loaded into camera is Equicolor (It’s Fuji Super G 100 as rumors say), as I still have half of the shelf of this material, and during autumn and winter there will be seldom a good occasion to use that film. Of course the film is outdated – expired in 2006, mostly because of that I have problems to get natural colors on the photos. I fight in post-processing to get rid of greenish tint, and as a result photos seem not exactly natural- but I still like the effects, the only downside is that photos usually differ from each other depending on the individual setting of the sliders in post-processing software.

Time for photos. The first one was a usual test in the mirror…

Now the series of photos taken when windsurfing in Rewa. Konica Pop is inexpensive camera – it helps to have it always with me, even on the beach.
