Do you remember the post about fixing the Yashica Electro 35? I was changing the light seals in the camera… (The post was here.) Recently there was time for the level advanced with another camera – the same model. The camera electronically was dead – no lights – arrows when too dark or to bright. The battery test also was not working. Fortunately camera mechanically seems to be all right. It behaves like that when there is no batteries – it takes photos but only with one fixed time – electronic shutter doesn’t work then.
Armed with pdf-s, electronic circuits schemas and websites with instructions how to fixed I’ve decided for the operation. It’s really level hard… even with correct tools. I’ve managed partially fix the camera – with a little bit of soldering and adding some new connection I’ve managed to fix the problem partially – camera works, times are correctly measured, shutter times are set correctly, I’ve even fixed the battery tester – I’ve managed to replace the original tester with the new one – a modern small microswitch. In fact as the result of this partial fix is a very quick battery draining. When I left camera for the night – in the morning the batteries were dead… I’ve plan a further investigation to fix the camera, however I need more tools to open the lens tube…
Other success was the cleaning of the rangefinder and the viewfinder… I plan to do it also with my private camera – because the viewfinder is very foggy. I hope to fix that camera to sell it later… I need some money to fund my new toy shopping… have I told you that I have a new Rolleiflex ? No ? … That will be in the next post. For now – check how the Yashica Electro look like inside…
Fixing it is really level advanced…
