Today I had finally some free time during weekend so I’ve decided to have a bike trip. I have no special idea for the destination – but i wanted not to be close to the starting point :) Well… after some thinking I’ve decided to go to Fortress Modlin near Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki, because i was planning to go the by local train and return by bike – that’s how I could see interesting game at the WorldCup – England-Germany. Unfortunately I’ve started my trip to late, and i missed earlier train and for the next I would have to wait about 1,5h so I’ve decided to go there by bike and maybe return by train. As always i’ve took my camera with me – EOS 350d which is my normal equipment on the more dangerous for such appliances trips. I’ve decided to go straight there to spend some time at the Fortress (last time i was too short – i had to return because of the growing dark) so no photos on my way. This time I was longer and finally I was at the compulsory places at the fortress like e.g. The view tower called Red Tower (Czerwona Wieża) or Tatar’s Tower (Wieża Tatarska), indeed it was worth to pay 3zł to see on the second bank the ruins of the old grain granary erected by the Polish Bank in 1844r with the project of J.J. Gaya in the narrow tip – the join of two big rivers – Narew and Vistula. Also there were other interesting places which can be seen on the photos – check out the descriptions… I will add some photos as well as detailed descriptions later…
Later on i watched the game in a nice restaurant at the Ostrołęcka Gate from 1836r. with the old military items ornamenting the interiors… After that i have to prepare for the return – as always – I didn’t want to be catched by the dusk on my way home. So as the summary the bike trip was 90km to Modlin and return – quite a nice distance, however it was on quite flat asphalt roads, so not so difficult. As I’ve checked after return to Modlin in fact is about 35-40km, about 20km I’ve made when I was trying to go round this big fortress…
I will have to go there again – there are still many very interesting places to see, I’ve just saw a few places in the fortress.Especially that the fortress is for sale ( you can buy if you want ! The price maybe is not so expensive, however the bid bond can be a problem – in cash before the auction :) ) – and the future of it, the ownership as the plans of the new owner to it are unknown. So I hope i will be able to freeze some more pictures of it in close future…
Well… enough. Now the photos.
