Gdańsk Kolonia Station

Now in the queue for the processing are the photos from the old, abandoned SKM (Szybka Kolej Miejska – Quick Metropolitan Railway in TriCity) Gdańsk Kolonia station. It’s the part of nowadays not used SKM line to the Gdańsk Nowy Port. It was closed in 90’s because of low passengers attendance – it’s similar track to the tram and bus lines. Earlier it was the quickest way to get to the Nowy Port’s shipyards. Today you can get there by car, tram, or bus, not mentioning that they close shipyards one after another.

This station is in the borders of different Gdańsk’s districts: Brzeźno, Wrzeszcz, Zaspa, Letnica and Kolonia. This station was called ‘Gdańsk Kolonia’ there is a passage under the rail tracks to the other side which is still in use by a few random people, but the platform and the station itself is almost completely forgotten. However from that station looking to the north towards Nowy Port there is track junction, where are many railway tracks still in use by the freight trains which go to the Shipyards and Port. For example you can still see goods train going to and from Gdańsk Port with goods, brand new cars and other stuff.

However Passenger stations are forgotten, they plan to renovate it before the European Championships in Poland in 2012 but I’m sceptic about it – however the localization of this station is perfect – it’s close to the new Energa/PGE Gdańsk Arena Stadium.
